ThrillOfDriving.com had revealed in May that McLaren would develop a more brutal P1 for track purposes only and the British manufacturer has officially unveiled a sketch of a more extreme version of the hybrid-engined P1, monikered the McLaren P1 GTR.

This hypercar will be showcased first at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 15 and will go into production sometime next year, after all 378 units of the standard P1 have been sold.

From the sketch, it seems that the track-only P1 GTR has a large, fixed rear-spoiler, a more aggressive aero package and a centre-mounted, dual-pipe exhaust. The wheel arches also look wider and with the larger side skirts, should enhance cornering ability by increasing downforce and grip.

Under the hood, the P1 GTR gets a power boost as well. The road-going P1 possesses a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 727bhp and a 176bhp electric motor, meaning a combined output of 903bhp. Combined output of the GTR is expected to be a whopping 986bhp, enabling nerve-shattering 0–100kmph times of around 2.5 seconds.
