We at TOD have bemoaned the lack of proper hot hatches in India, the best we have are the Volkswagen GT twins, both producing 103bhp from their respective engines. Internationally however, Volkswagen has just released some official images and bits of information regarding the latest 189bhp Polo GTI facelift that is expected to debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. Visually, the update is along the same lines as the Polo that launched globally in January, 2014, though the front bumper has been slightly redesigned.

The juiciest piece of news is the fact that the new GTI will no longer be powered by the 178bhp 1.4-litre, supercharged and turbocharged four-pot, instead it will sport a turbocharged 1.8-litre motor producing 189bhp and 320Nm of torque. While the seven-speed DSG will be optional, the new Polo GTI gets what the previous model missed out on, a six-speed manual, delivering power to the front wheels through an e-diff. VW claims this combination will be enough to make the o-100kmph run in 6.7 seconds (0.2 seconds faster than the 1.4-litre last gen Polo), and hit a top whack of 235kmph.

The only other bit of information we have is that the new Polo GTI gets LED headlights and an optional adaptive sports suspension. More will be revealed when the car debuts at the begining of October in Paris.
