Volvo Auto India launched its first ever airport lounge at Terminal 3, Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. Entry to this exclusive lounge is by invitation only while Volvo customers and guests get the full red carpet treatment with Platinum and Gold cards. Volvo Retail Experience would ensure travellers passing by the departure concourse can catch a glimpse of Volvo’s India line-up. Luckier blokes would be able to sample a taste of Scandinavian luxury inside the lounge which is spread over 925 sq ft.

The S80 too made a comeback at the lounge with fresh updates. Visually, the new grille lends the front a sleeker, more sportier stance and LED DRLs have become the norm now and Volvo have integrated them craftily. The lower part of the front bumper gets a splitter-like design accentuating the sporty design theme. Among other changes, a TFT display finds its way to the instrument cluster while a three spoke steering gets paddle shifters, all in the name of sportiness.

Volvo’s obsession for safety may have possibly hit a minor roadblock given Indian traffic’s equal obsession for the very lack of it. With their laser assisted automated braking system previously programmed to work under 30kmph, it has now been raised to 50kmph and the system would apply the brakes or increase braking pressure in case of an emergency which requires panic braking.

The S80 will be available in D4 Summum and D5 Summum diesel trims. Powerplants remains the same as before with the 2.0-litre belting out 163bhp and the 2.4-litre diesel putting out 215bhp in the D4 and D5 respectively. The D4 has been launched at a price of Rs 41.35 lakh ex-showroom Delhi and D5 at Rs 44.80 lakh. Volvo’s evolving design theme leans more towards a sportier character hinting at a shift in their target audience. Fancy grandma’s new ride then?
