Yamaha has announced that it will launch the YZF-R25 in the Indonesian Market in July 2014. The new Yamaha is expected to hit Indian shores later this year. The quarter-litre bike will be an addition to the existing YZF super-sport series, and will feature a 250cc 2-cylinder motor, expected to put out approximately 36bhp.

Yamaha says that the concept of the ‘superbike you can ride every day’ has been a guiding principle in the development of the R25. The bike, which is expected to have the highest engine output in its segment, will also feature styling cues from its higher displacement siblings. Yamaha claims that the R25 is designed to be deft enough to handle the rigour of a race track while offering a comfortable and composed everyday ride.

The R25 will be driven by freshly developed 250cc, liquid-cooled two-cylinder fuel injected engine. To aid combustion, the new engine was designed to actively generate a tumble (a vertical whirl of air-fuel mixture) in the combustion chamber while maintaining an optimum flow rate of the engine’s air-fuel mixture.

The frame has been designed to maximize weight saving, minimizing on curves and weld points. The front forks 41mm inner tubes the largest in its class. The R25 will also be equipped with Mono-cross suspension that contributes to mass centralization, and a rear swingarm that has the same axial distance ratio as the YZF-R1.

When Yamaha brings the YZF-R25 to India, whether in its present form or as a single-cylinder, as rumoured, it will have established competition in the KTM RC390/200, the Honda CBR250R and possibly the Kawasaki Z250SL.
