Yamaha has ramped up its FZ series with two new models launched, the FZ Version 2.0 and the FZ-S Version 2.0. Both models of this popular 150cc sport-naked come with an all-new air-cooled 149cc fuel-injection engine which comes from Yamaha’s new engine development ideal, ‘Blue Core’. The Japanese manufacturer claims 14 per cent better fuel efficiency, better acceleration and compliance with the stringent BS4 norms.

Yamaha is targeting the 18–30 male audience with the new models and its design and colour schemes reflects this idea. The FZ comes in either Black Panther or Scorching Red colours, is priced at Rs 76,250 while the FZ-S, that is finished in either Astral Blue, Moonwalk White, Cyber Green or Molten Orange, costs Rs 78,250, all prices ex-showroom Delhi.

Despite making 0.7bhp and 0.8Nm less than the older carburettor version, the fuel injection makes the engine much smoother and makes the throttle response crisper. While the seat height remains unchanged, the riding position has been revised to lend comfort to taller riders. The version 2.0 models also get a newly designed grab bar, all-digital instrument cluster, revised front and rear suspension set-up, and a few tweaks to the chassis to enhance ride and new tyres.

Speaking at the occasion, Masaki Asano, MD, Yamaha Motor India Sales said, “The FZ has been a stellar performer ever since its launch in 2008. With the introduction of the new FZ and FZ-S, armed with the next generation ‘Blue Core’ engine concept, the new models are bound to offer power-packed performance and improved fuel efficiency.”

The new Version 2.0 models will help increase Yamaha’s claimed market share of 16.2 per cent in the 150cc deluxe segment. The Japanese bike maker may well have a winner on its hands.
