3 Essential Tools for Shifting Your Life
The three books that have had the most profound impact in shaping and transforming my life.
While the books that have shaped my life are quite extensive, I will try to be brief in my summary. I am an avid reader and I have been for quite some time. I credit my parents and my grandparents with instilling in me such a passion for learning. I can remember many trips to the bookstore and the library growing up. Through college and into adulthood, reading has always been one of my greatest passions. Books are powerful and they open us up to new possibilities for our lives. Most importantly, books challenge how we see ourselves, provoke us to make changes and and expand our perspectives on the world. One of the best things you could ever do is develop a love for reading. In fact, I love reading so much that I started a global book club. It’s amazing how people from all over the world have joined my book club. The discussions and community is amazing. Here are a few of the books that have greatly impacted my life.
- As A Man Thinketh By James Allen
This book is a classic. It has been reprinted and revised many times. However, it has had a profound impact on my life. This book really deals with the power of our thoughts, how our thoughts shape our decisions and how everything in our lives can be linked to how we think. After just a few pages into the book, my mind was blown and I had one of the greatest epiphanies of my life. Finally, I was able to understand why I was living in vicious cycles of frustration and defeat. Also, I was able to identify key patterns and constructs that were preventing me from living a greater life. This book helped awaken me to my purpose and gave me a passion for helping people transform the way that they think. This is a book I reread every year and I always get something different from the book. It will change the way you think about your life.
- Reposition Yourself: Living Life Without Limits By T.D. Jakes
This book came out during my undergraduate years. I was busy and I really did not have time to read another book. However, everywhere I went I heard people talking about this book. So I finally decided to read it. It was one of the most powerful and insightful books I have ever read. First of all, the book could not have come at a better time. I was stressed and going through lots of life changes at the time. This book teaches you how to make the adjustments that will produce achievement in your life. Jakes does a phenomenal job of showing you how to take your adversity and pain and allow them to fuel your destiny. You will be inspired and empowered to make big shifts in your life, move beyond fear and limitations and learn strategies to position you for next level living. This book created a major internal shift in me and set me on the course to living the life of my dreams.
- Thrive: The Third Metric to Redefining Success and Creating a Life of Well-Being, Wisdom and Wonder By Arianna Huffington
Few books have transformed my life like this one. This book came out at a time in my life when I was at my worst. I was going through so many challenges in my life and my business. I was stressed, fatigued and trying to get back to a place of peace in my life. Only a few pages into the book my soul was ignited. My frustration turned into pure joy as I received so many answers for my life. Arianna Huffington reminded me that I needed to get my priorities straight and I had to redefine what success looked like to me. This book will challenge you to work on your inner world. We spend so much time on the external. However, we have neglected the true part of us. Thrive is more than a book. It’s a lifestyle that you have to embrace if you want to continually live a life of fulfillment. If you will build your life on these pillars, you will experience peace and the force of joy in a way that you never have before. These principles were not new to me. However, sometimes you have to be reminded. You have to get back to that sacred place of peace, wholeness and rest in your life. Thrive challenged me to live life on my own terms and to never allow the world around me to define my success.
