3 Hidden Benefits to Food Cleansing

Beyond the Physical

One of my favorite ways to support my body is by completing food cleanses. Food cleansing has so many physical benefits that include releasing weight and inflammation, increased energy, clearer skin, better sleep and so much more!

There are some other benefits with food cleansing that aren’t quite so readily talked about.

Before I jump into that, let’s define food cleansing for those of you who may not be familiar with it. Food cleansing is eliminating things from your diet for 3–30 days. You eliminate things like dairy, sugar, gluten, alcohol, caffeine and sometimes soy from your diet for the entire cleanse. During the cleanse, you also focus on eating whole, unprocessed foods that includes lot of fresh fruit and vegetables.

At the end of the cleanse, you gradually add back in the foods you eliminated. When you add those eliminated foods back in gradually, it gives you the opportunity to see how your body reacts and notice if there are any bad reactions to the foods themselves. This is one of the best ways to see if you have a food intolerance.

Food cleansing is one of those things that is really personal and scary. The reason it feels scary is because food is often habit and comfort for us. The food we eat often comforts us when we have a difficult day. Eating food that is familiar and comforting allows us to avoid making decisions around food when we are already overwhelmed by all the decisions we need to make throughout the day. The thought of changing our diet can feel really overwhelming and uncertain.

This is the main reason that I suggest starting with a five day food cleanse. For most of us, jumping in with both feet and both hands to complete a 21 day food cleanse feels totally overwhelming and impossible. But I’ve found with myself as well as my clients that starting with just five days feels not quite so overwhelming and that it might actually be possible to complete; especially if they have my support to get through it.

Now let’s talk about those other benefits that I mentioned above! Here are the three surprise benefits that my clients report.

Confidence. Through completing just five days of food cleansing, my clients end up feeling an increase in their confidence level. Why? Because they did something that was overwhelming and outside their comfort zone! When you see that you actually can give up some of your favorite foods for five days, you feel like a rock star! As a rock star, you also begin to see yourself in a more confident light in your business, your relationships, your health and so much more!

Awareness. This is another big benefit that is often surprising for my clients. During a cleanse things get revealed that we never expected. My clients have become aware of nighttime snacking habits, daytime coffee habits and even how attached they are to certain food. Most of the time we have no idea the crashes we can experience from too much sugar or caffeine until we go without them for a few days and see that we CAN maintain our energy levels without all the ups and downs. Another big one that comes up for clients is that they begin to see they have developed an emotional reliance on certain foods. Since they can’t turn to that food on a cleanse, they begin to look for and find other things to soothe and find comfort in a different, healthier way.

Focus/Clarity. Another huge benefit to food cleansing is that we begin to feel more focused and have more clarity for our lives and businesses. When we are eating things that don’t support our body, we can often experience brain fog and lack of direction with our day to day life. By choosing to eat foods that support our body and eliminating those that don’t, we find that we are thinking more clearly and are better able to focus on the tasks ahead of us. Thereby; we find ourselves getting more done as well as making better decisions as we go through our day.

Completing just a five day cleanse provides so many benefits for the body as well as the mind. Have you completed a cleanse? Why or why not? I’d love to hear from you in the comments!
