3 Reasons Why You are Procrastinating

The Procrastination Rationalization

Here is exactly why procrastination is such a problem. Because, we all KNOW what it takes to achieve our goals, but we just don’t do it.

Instead, we rationalize in our heads why this thing can get done later.


Here are the three things we tell ourselves so that we can procrastinate…

1. We have plenty of time.

We have a whole lifetime here on earth, so we can get it done later. Once we get the other, more important stuff taken care of, we will work on the thing that we are procrastinating doing.

The problem is that we only think we have the time. The truth is that we don’t have the time.

We all know that as soon as we tell ourselves that we will get to it “tomorrow,” it will never actually get done.

So, how much time do we have?

Well, if you are 40 years old, and you live until the age of 85, you have approximately 16,000 days left to get your shit done and achieve your wildest dreams. #fancymathskills

Sounds like plenty of time. But, the problem is that that number is decreasing every day.

Maybe we can look at it like this instead: It’s about 2300 weeks or 500 months.

How about this? If you take one big vacation per year, you have about 40 big vacations left.

Are you getting your ass in gear yet?

2. Fear.

The second reason that we procrastinate is that we are afraid. We are afraid of what others might think, of taking a risk, of change, of looking weird, of failing, of not. being. perfect…

Once we realize that those fears are the reasons that we are procrastinating, it becomes clear that we really have no logic for NOT doing what we know we need to do.

Let’s vow to just move forward imperfectly.

3. We don’t feel like it.

We are lazy, way too comfortable, and we are secretly hoping that thing will either get done via a magic pill or it will just go away.

Get uncomfortable now so that you can live and love your life later.

It’s almost too simple.

We all already know what we need to do. It’s not a special, secret system, pill, quick fix, money back guaranteed, promise. We just need to start.

  • To lose weight, we have to eat better and workout more.
  • For a stronger marriage, we have to spend more time communicating with our spouse.
  • If we want to feel less stressed, we have to take some things off of our plate.

The answer is almost too basic but, it comes down to finishing simply by starting. Today.
