5 tips for dealing with anxiety in your day

If your day and your workload are overwhelming you. These small, simple practises may be the key to feeling grounded again…

1.Give your mind a break. Our minds take in an infinite stream of stimuli throughout the day that can clutter our attention. Give yourself a few minutes to breathe, relax and recentre whenever you feel overwhelmed.

2.Use calming rituals. Create a sense of peace within a desk space or plane seat (or anywhere else you may be feeling anxious!) with familiar sounds. Create playlists of your favorite calming music, audiobook or calming meditation and close your eyes. These can help bring both calm and comfort to stressful times.

3.Take time to move daily. Cardio and stretching exercises release endorphins. So whether you go for a short walk, run or a yoga class. Try to commit to working out for at least 15 to 30 minutes a day, use this time to relase stress and anxiety. Give the world the best version of you; take care of yourself first, and then let your best self shine in to the world!

4.Communicate your anxiety. Open communication is important for all relationships. So if you are feeling the weight of anxiety, share your concerns and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Honesty helps create strong bonds in love, work and friendship, and we can help lift each other up.

5. Take all things one step at a time. There is a fantastic piece of advice from Caitlin Moran (arent they all!) that says:

Here is a promise, and a fact: you will never, in your life, ever have to deal with anything more than the next minute. However much it feels like you are approaching an event — an exam, a conversation, a decision, a kiss — where, if you screw it up, the entire future will just burn to hell in front of you and you will end, you are not.
The minutes always come one at a time, inside hours that come one at a time, inside days that come one at a time — all orderly strung, like pearls on a necklace, suspended in a graceful line. You will never, ever have to deal with more than the next 60 seconds.

Create a calendars and lists of all your deadlines and projects for the next few months. But remember that we do not have to do it all, and do it all right now. It’s impossible to accomplish ten projects simultaneously. So take each task, each deadline, and focus on one. One step, one minute, at a time.
