7 Ways To Remain Motivated and Energized Throughout The Day
Start with one small, doable change, succeed with that and build from there.
The way we spend the first hours of the day, usually determines how productive we will be. If we wake up tired and immediately begin to work, probably our entire day would be impractical. If on the other hand, in the morning we take time to create a mode of productivity and great energy, we can achieve much more during the day.
The question is how we can wake up every day happy, full of energy and ready to take on the world around us?
First, we need to sleep enough. Second, we need to establish morning habits, “rituals” (routines) through which we draw attention to ourselves first and only then begin to work on emails, news, social networks, etc.
No matter how we wake up, our morning habits can help us achieve the right mood and attitude and increase our productivity for the day. At the same time one morning habit may be destructive, reducing our energy and motivation (e.g. TV or checking emails immediately after waking up).
Here are some examples of constructive and energizing habits which will help you start your day on a productive note.
- Plan your day
Start the morning with a quick session of organizing and planning the day, this way you will perform more tasks. When you write tasks down and have them prioritized, you will have solid guidelines to follow for the rest of the day.
Most of the time people are unproductive simply because they do not know what task to attempt first. When there is a list of priorities in front of you, you will not waste time wondering what to do. Once you’ve reached the daily achievement of the long-term goals, you will have even more motivation to work on them.
Try to avoid engaging in work, emails, social networks, etc., directly after waking up.
2. Time for motivation
“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing — that’s why we recommend it daily. “ ~ Zig Ziglar
Motivation comes and goes. To keep motivation at high, it’s worth taking a little time in the morning to set up the tone of your motivation the right way.
“Time for motivation” is needed every morning — spend 10 minutes on activities that will motivate you. Do you need some ideas? Here are 5 ways to motivate yourself:
1. Watch a motivational video
2. Listen to a motivational speech
3. Read a passage from a book you like
4. Review your goals (if you have set any and if you haven’t, it’s probably time to set a few) and remind yourself why you get out of bed every morning
5. Imagine visually your future success — How do you feel? How do you look? What do you do and what is your life?
3. Move your body
It’s no secret that regular exercise has a positive effect on productivity. Some people, however, find it difficult to find time for exercise. Therefore I recommend you exercise in the morning before any crisis, emergency and madness of the day to begin. Make it part of your morning routine and you will start your day off with flying colors.
How did you feel the last time you exercised? Do you remember the wonderful feeling after that good workout? What if you can feel that way every morning before you start your workday? How will this affect your performance?
There’s no need for your exercises to take long time. Even 20 minutes of exercise each day is much better than total lack of exercise. If you prefer intense workouts, studies recommend that you exercise at least 3 times a week, each time at least 1 hour.
4. Remove/limit your Internet access
As human beings, we enjoy hearing the news and the gossip all around us and have inner desire not to lose contact with anything. And of course, Internet devices are ideal for this purpose. When these devices are easily accessible (or worse — under the pillow!), when waking up, this increases the temptation of risking our focus in the morning and to shift completely. You will review the news, Facebook, Twitter or email from the comfort of your bed, which seems like an easy way to start the day, but it can completely ruin your plans for the morning.
First of all, this switches us from proactive mode (in which we begin to do the job) to a reactive mode (to respond to external events) and can derail all of our plans to achieve something more than the minimum goal to go to the office (preferably — in time).
Disconnecting your device (s) and leaving them in another room before going to bed will accomplish wonders for your productivity and health, quality of sleep and even, dare I say — the relationship with your partner.
5. Put your dancing shoes on and listen to music
It has been shown that music therapy reduces stress and has a positive effect on health. Yet you do not need a therapist to enjoy some of the benefits of music. Listening to music while you prepare to start your day will create positive energy and soothing sense of peace (or entertainment if you play upbeat music).
6. Drink a glass of water + lemon (+ honey)
Experts state that in the morning on an empty stomach everyone needs to drink a glass of slightly warmed water. Adding lemon not only quenches thirst better than any other beverage, but also supplies the body with vitamins, minerals and other elements that are absolutely necessary. Lemon water can be considered the best natural energy drink. When you wake up in the morning, the body’s tissues are dehydrated and need water to remove toxins and rejuvenate cells. In other words, this homemade “lemonade” helps us to eliminate internal toxins and regulates the proper functioning of the kidneys and digestive tract, causing them to run as smoothly as possible.
Add a spoonful of raw honey to make the drink healthier, more enjoyable and energizing.
7. Prepare a balanced breakfast
For those of you who start the day with coffee, there’s a reminder which says that “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” because of a very good reason: healthy eating in the morning can balance your blood sugar and give you the necessary bait to deal with the physical and mental stress. Without it you will be less durable in every respect. Experts say that it’s necessary to have some protein, complex carbohydrate from fruits and vegetables or some good fats, not just caffeine and empty calories.
