Ariely, whom you may know from his insightful TED Talks, told CNBC that “our understanding of what causes us to be happy is flawed.” Instead, it’s meaning that motivates us.

It’s not a new notion. After all, “money doesn’t buy happiness” is an oft-repeated expression for a reason. But hearing it from an expert like Ariely is more reason to prioritize meaning over money.
