One of the world’s leading happiness researchers, Shawn Achor, turns the success-happiness ideal on its head by studying the way Ancient Greeks define joy. For them, he says, happiness is the joy felt moving toward one’s potential.

“People’s thoughts about the world, change their actions in it,” he says in a conversation with Thrive Global founder and CEO Arianna Huffington.

When people see joy as more than just pleasure, it increases their likelihood of helping others.
