Breaking up using a phone — is that kind?
When Technology takes over
I’ve had a lot on my mind recently and needed to disconnect, to think. Yes, I need to step back and write a letter that says how I feel from deep within. I’m an addict, and its time to get back my life!
Its been a couple years since we’ve been together. They have been good years, despite the many moments of anxiety you caused me.
I remember when we first met, and I saw you. You wore an irresistible shade of purple and I was drawn to you. It took sometime for us to really connect, as I had a relationship with Sam and that was a very deep connection. I loved Sam and there was almost nothing he could not get right. We never slept together though, and this is what made you special.
I’m not sure exactly when you and I connected on another level, but we became quite inseparable. Even when you were bad you were good. I confess initially I did not like you. You moved too fast. You knew too much and I felt, you were out of my league. I’m glad I gave you a chance to prove that I could keep up with you. Every time I look at you I’m satisfied. Yes, you make me sing, and talk, smile, laugh, and when we take photos together, I know we were made to be together. No one quite gets me like you do.
This week though I realized that I allowed you to be in control of our relationship, and maybe its time that I slowly disengage from you. Sleeping together requires a commitment, according to Steve Harvey — and my mom, but somehow, I let you break all the rules.
Last night, when we did not sleep together, I felt good. It was a breath of fresh air. I did not even wake once to use the bathroom. Total sleep was good. You have a way of humming, and even waking me up throughout the night. Its never important, but you do it anyway. Just because you want me to hold you. I know you like my hands, and my voice, but everyone needs some alone time. Listen, I’m taking back that time.
My doctor says I need to sleep. Sleep is essential to my good health and if I intend to lose weight I need my rest. Sleep is important in my recovery from my accident and you’re not helping me. Many mornings when I awake, I’m tired, and I get cranky because I’m stressed out from a lack of sleep. I’m so much older than you I should be wiser. You’ve introduced this older woman to things I never dreamed of, and I’m grateful for your time.
I don’t even want you next to me in the car. Do you hear that. I’ve had too many near misses because you are tempting and irresistible. Its for the best. I’m too addicted to you to make wise decisions when you are around. You are not my world!
Listen, the next time I allow someone into my bed, it will be my husband. So, its all about me now. Good bye LG Nexus, its time for you to stay where you belong, on my desk!
Addiction & Mobile Phones
As the letter above states, being addicted to a mobile phone is like any other addiction. We get involved and if not careful we can lose sight of what’s important.
People and face to face conversations are important.
As we adapt our lives to the ease at which we can connect to each other, we can lose the real connection of touch and feeling. People give hugs and kisses, hold hands and feel that sensory connection associated with breathing.
Driving safely is important.
Driving requires focus and attention. It only takes a split second to change your life and lose the lives of others.
Sleep is important.
We need to sleep so when we are awake we can be alert and aware and effective in whatever we do.
I can share with you a lot of stats to back up these common sense assertions, or I can let you think about it.
Use your mobile phone responsibly. Breaking up with a phone is kind — in my experience!
Fyi — Sam is my last Samsung Note 3, and that was an excellent mobile phone. When my niece sent me a LG Nexus 5, I was blown away!
If this resonates with you, there is my ‘heart’ which beats when you ‘click’! Please share your thoughts via comments. Thanks for being awesome!
