Have you ever looked out the window of a tall building on the edge of the downtown area of a large city? Have you ever sat there and just watched all of the cars drive around? They almost look like toy cars. The buildings look like they could be Lego’s. Watching the boats sailing along the water right next to downtown looks like a large pond.

It’s funny how just being on a high floor and looking down completely alters the perspective of the entire city. Have you ever walked around a downtown area, where the buildings tower over you and each other? The buildings seem to go for miles and you remember how small and insignificant you are? You walk block to block and you see all of the little details, the corner stores, the cafes, the donut spots, the back door of the restaurant left open for air circulation, the valet parking curbs jammed with cars, all of the hustle and bustle is so real, you can literally touch it.

The interesting thing is that the city is the same. The people walking around it are the same. The birds flying around it are the same. The cars driving around it are the same. The buildings are the same. Everything is the same.

So how do they seem so different? What makes the same city seem like two completely different places? What changed was your perspective. Perspective plays a big role in how your life goes. If you look at the problems in your life like they can trample you, they will, but if you look at them like you have power over them, you will.

Your perspective determines your outcome. Tony Robbins even says, “What you focus on you attract.” Have you ever had a problem and the more you stressed or thought about it the worse it seemed to get? That’s the same idea, as you think about the problem more and more you spiral down a path of all the things that are going wrong, but nothing gets fixed. When you change your perspective and begin to think more positively it is easier to think of a solution and not get overwhelmed.

When you look at a person in your life who is constantly expecting the worst, how often does the worst happen? On the other hand do you know someone who always thinks that everything will work out perfectly, and for some strange reason it does most of the time. So do you want to be the person who is constantly thinking down, or the person who is thinking positively? So how do we change our perspective?

No one can just change the way they have thought over night, it starts slowly. Here are a few ways to jumpstart your new positive outlook on life.

Daily affirmations -

“There is no affirmation without the one who affirms. In this sense, everything to which you grant your love is yours.” - Ayn Rand, The Fountainhead

Daily affirmations are a wonderful way to start your day. If you are feeling weak, sad, like a bad person, then make sure you look your self in the mirror and tell yourself, I am strong, I am happy, I am a good person. Repeat that to yourself every morning; remember that you are in control of your life, and you can create the person you want to become. Hearing yourself say those positive and uplifting words can shift your entire morning, and remind you that you are worth the effort you want to put into yourself every day.

Journaling -

“Thoughts are energy, energy is matter, and matter doesn’t disappear.” - Wunder Wend

Writing down your hopes, dreams, and feelings make them real. They aren’t something you just thought of and forget, when you write these things down, you are giving yourself something to look at and say I can do that, or how can I make this happen. When you put something down in writing you can look at it again, get inspired, and make it happen. No only is journaling good for inspiration, it is a good way to get out feelings that have built up. When you don’t express your feelings, it is hard to move on from them, causing you to become overwhelmed by emotion. This is a big reason people experience such highs, and lows. If you get the feelings out it is harder for you to become overwhelmed by them.

Mission statements -

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” - Maya Angelou

Having a mission statement doesn’t only apply to a business, you can create a mission statement for your life. Think of where you want to go in life, what do you want to accomplish. Write it down in your new journal and say it every morning as an affirmation, remind yourself every single day what you want. How do you want to be know, or remembered? It is sometimes hard to remember who we are, or what we want to become throughout our lives, our daily lives can get in the way sometimes. So telling yourself every morning, reminding yourself, is a great way to stay on path to who you want to be.

What is perspective? It is the way you look at something, your point of view, and even though sometimes it doesn’t feel like it is something you can control it 100% is. It is often said that our first reaction to something is how we are told to view the world, but the thoughts that come after are our own. So are you going to continue to think you can’t do something because the world told you so? Or are you going to wake up in the morning and say I can, and I will, so watch me world.

Perspective is a powerful thing, so don’t get trapped with a negative outlook on life.
