Developing a Self Care Routine

This Week’s Mantra

If you’ve ever tried to start a new habit or routine like going to the gym or eating healthier you know how challenging it is. But once you get on the other side of that routine being a part of your daily life it’s easy. It’s also easy to get out of the routine and struggle to re-develop it again. This is completely normal with just about any habit or routine that is good for you. But what is good for you isn’t always going to be easy but it makes the reward that much better.

Initially started a self care routine when I could not handle my emotional reactions and everything on my plate. I was constantly trying to do all the things and would never take care of myself until I crashed and burned. You can avoid the burnout by developing a daily self care routine. The good thing is you can develop this without adding anything extra to your busy day or schedule. It’s just about doing things differently. And things will not change in your life until you change how you do things.

Here are my top self-care tips for developing a self-care routine!

1. The first thing you need to do is write a list of all the things that you would want to do for yourself care regardless you had the time or money to do it. Then take a look at that list and decide which of those things can you do monthly weekly or daily.

2. Try adding the self-care Habit to something you already do. If you are already taking a shower try to make that shower a little extra special make the mundane fulfill you instead of just be another daily tasks. I like to do this by listening to music in the shower or using a special body wash for body scrub lighting candles. You can do this on Monday morning before you go to work instead of turning the lights on, light the candles.

3. Another tip is to schedule your self care time. The same way you schedule a doctor’s appointment, a work meeting, or your kid’s baseball game. Schedule that self-care time in as if you’re actually going to do it. Of course there are times that you might not do it but won’t the chances be more likely if you have a little reminder pop on your phone to say time to take some deep breaths?

Here is an example of my daily self-care.

Daily: Every day I do some sort of meditation journaling or prayer. It’s that simple.
Weekly: Each week I do yoga and take a bath .
Monthly: Each month I get a massage.

Here’s a list of my extra self-care items.
Taking my daily shower with candles and inspiring music.
Binge watching my favorite show on Netflix.
Getting my hair done.
Taking a hike on the weekend.
Enjoying a glass of wine on my patio while listening to music.
Reading before bed!

You can do it too and I can help you along the way. September is self-care month get on the self-care bandwagon reduce your daily overwhelm reduce your stress and anxiety. Start feeling refreshed in your day instead of drained been exhausted. Join me in my 7-day self-care challenge sign up below.
