7 Winning Sacrifices I Made On The Road to Success
We have got the whole world in our hands if we are prepared to make some sacrifices to create our road map to success.
“If you don’t sacrifice for what you want, what you want becomes the sacrifice.” Unknown
We all have to make sacrifices on the road to success, and different things make everyone successful as we are all unique and original. Defining your measure of success as an individual is paramount to moving forward in life. For me, my definition of success encompasses a complete holistic view of my life and my maintaining my emotional and physical health and individuality is what defines it.
Here are seven things I ditched that helped me map out my road to success and enabled me to move closer to my definition above every day.
- Unhealthy Habits: “ Harmful to health.”
What you fuel your body with will determine how much energy you will have to enable success. Healthy body healthy mind. It has to start here your health is your wealth prioritize it to your benefit. Give them up and stimulate your body to awaken your brain and unlock potential to enable future success. You can’t do that sitting down all day. Let food be your fuel and movement your medicine
Two simple steps to move forward
1. Eat less
2. Move More
2. Whingeing: “ Complain persistently and in a peevish or irritating way.”
Hands up I loved a good old whinge and moan in the past, but I learned my lesson because nobody cares there is no reason why they should? People have their problems and daily grind in life to be dealing with and resolve. Let’s face it you are wasting time and energy that could be better spent improving your life. Give it up start your day focusing on all the good you have in life and build on that strength to improve the weaknesses.
3. Comparing:“ Estimate, measure, or note the similarity or dissimilarity between.”
If we compare our measure of success based on someone else’s reality, we will never reach our goals. Remember chasing someone else’s dream, or material success only leaves us feeling miserable, inadequate and lacking, even more, confidence if we choose to let it. Give it up now and leave others to their lives so you can move on to make the best of yours. Start enjoying what you have and don’t miss out on another minute of living your life worrying about what others have.
4. Validation: “ Recognition or affirmation that a person or their feelings or opinions are valid or worthwhile.”
You don’t need people to validate you, you are valuable and are enough. Trust in your judgement and gut instinct it will never lead you astray.
5. Technology Addiction: “ The fact or condition of being addicted to a particular activity in this instance technology.”
Disconnect so you can reconnect. Think about how social media, emails and technology, in general, can overcrowd our time and energy. Time and energy that could be serving us better and providing more fulfilling connections and experiences in life that enable success. Give it up don’t let social media or technology turn into an energy-sucking activity or escapism from life. Differentiate the fake from the real, get on with your life and use your browsing time wisely to benefit you and your goals.
6. Perfectionism: “ Refusal to accept any standard short of perfection.”
So why the need for the pressure of perfectionism that we place on ourselves at times until we actually POP.
According to Brené Brown, researcher and author of the Gifts of Imperfection:
“Perfectionism is a self-destructive and addictive belief system that fuels this primary thought: If I look perfect, live perfectly, and do everything perfectly, I can avoid or minimize the painful feelings of shame, judgment and blame”
Give it up it hampers progress never mind causes endless mental exhaustion and anxiety. Let’s all embrace being imperfectly perfect. Here is an excellent article on the Huffington post on letting it go for good.
7. Self-Limiting Self Talk: “ The act or practice of talking to oneself, either aloud or silently and mentally.”
Turning down the volume on the noise in your head calms the self-doubt and limiting beliefs that can creep in. Become familiar with your internal chatter and how you respond to it, catch it and rephrase it to empower you forward. Give it up and be mindful of how you are talking to yourself because you are listening. Your brain has a clever way of rewiring itself in that regard so imagine what it can do if you reverse it, great things that enable success.
Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.
