How I Became an M&M* Mom

*M&M = Magical Moments / Meaningful Memories

M&M = Magical Moments and Meaningful Memories

Many years ago, when I was a single mom, I took my ten year old daughter on vacation to Eilat, Israel’s most southern city on the coast of the Red Sea. It was a grand holiday — just the two of us — filled with all the goodies this resort town has to offer.

We cruised the waters on a glass bottom boat and explored the hidden under world of brightly colored tropical fish and exquisite coral. We swam with friendly dolphins. We visited a Wild West entertainment site and rode camels through the desert into the sunset.

Upon return, she shared her experiences with her older siblings.

“And what did you like best?” they asked.

Without giving it a moment’s thought, she replied, her eyes lighting up like two full moons, “When mommy and I ordered room service and had chocolate milkshakes in bed and watched Speed on TV!”

That was definitely a defining moment in my life.

That is when the penny dropped and I came to the life-changing realization that magical moments and meaningful memories have nothing to do with their value in dollars. The simple act of shnoogling together in bed, watching a movie on TV and indulging in chocolate milkshakes meant more to my young daughter than the tourist attractions, the five-star hotel and the air-flights I had spent my hard-earned wages on to give her a treat.

That was when I became an M&M Mom.

Treasure Hunt — This is Where Mommy Grew Up

Today I am known as the granny, who doesn’t always show up with presents. I am known as the granny, who builds tents in the living room made from blankets, clothes pins and dining room chairs. I am known as the granny, you Skype at six AM to do riddles or play States and Capitals. I am the granny, who tells stories, builds castles in the sand and takes kids on treasure hunts around town or back in time sharing family memories.

Magical Moments and Meaningful Memories have nothing to do with having the time. They have everything to do with mindset and making M&Ms your priority.

Don’t wait until you’re a granny to create M&Ms with your kids.

The best gift we can give our kids and ourselves, as a matter of fact, is our Time and undivided attention. If you’re not quite sure how, that’s okay, I will show you how.

But, don’t wait for tomorrow. Kids grow up before tomorrow comes.

It’s time to take control of our lives.

It’s Time 2 Lead.

It’s time to THRIVE.
