How joining a grassroots campaign can help refocus your passions
Go back to your roots and find amazing people along the way.
When 200 things are thrown physically on your desk or virtually into your inbox, it’s difficult to actually figure out the answer to the question of, what are you passionate about?
One of the best ways I’ve found to find something you’re passionate about, is join a grassroots campaign. Let me give you an example.
Well into my freshman year of college, I was trying to find something, anything, that I could put my heart into both emotionally and physically (not a boy). I stumbled upon Shot@Life, an organization under the United Nations Foundation that gathers the troops in the forms of grassroots campaigning in support of funding for immunization of children in third world nations.
Did you know that every 20 seconds a child dies from a vaccine-preventable death? Healthcare that our country has established as almost a staple to life is the definitive line between life and death for many, many people. Too many. When I found Shot@Life, I found a cause that I could put my support behind 100%. And when I found the cause, I found amazing people who I instantly connected with.
Shot@Life is one community that I found goes out of its way to connect its supporters and grow the network. Meeting with hundreds of supporters at the annual Shot@Life Summit in DC was an amazing experience in that conversations were immediately struck not only on vaccinations, but topics that many of us synced on.
Hopping off my soapbox now.
Grassroots campaigns, no matter the topic of subject at hand, serves as one of the best platforms to find and actually do your passions. And, grassroots campaigning exists in almost any single cause you can think of. Gather support for your favorite politician, push forth public education policies, save the puppies. It’s in its nature to connect people and serve as a collective for a cause, and that’s not a bad way to follow your passions.
