How to Embrace Change in Your Life Now
Many of us fear of change, which is absolutely normal. Instead of taking action we freeze and paralyse in the face of fear, feeling that the unknown is scarier than the misery of the known. But all this in-action coupled with stress and anxiety is what ultimately leads to our suffering.
Because the truth is is that growth doesn’t happen within our comfort zone.
As I look back it appears I’ve been embracing change since I was a little girl — two homes and six schools through my early childhood, two countries, two schools and eight moves during my university days, and between getting engaged to getting married it’s been two countries, five homes and two kids later. Now with that embrace I’m living the life of my dreams working and travelling all over the world, balancing life as a wife, a mindful mama and conscious entrepreneur.
“Were those first years hard and did I miss all the comforts of my hometown? Yes. Would I go back and do it all over again? Absolutely. Living in a foreign country had its ups and downs, but giving myself that permission slip ten years ago truly paid off. Through those challenging times outside my comfort zone, I started to see myself, and experience the world, so completely different — a life so beautiful and beyond anything I could have ever imagined. “ — an excerpt from my story in the co-authored book Give Yourself Permission Anthology,
From my own personal experience and coaching clients I’ve witnessed time and time again that it’s within making change and taking action that spurs the catalyst for growth and opportunity.
First, accept that life is impermanent. We all have the same amount of time in the day, we all will grow old and we each have a finite amount of time on this earth.
Second, detach from the results of your actions. It’s when we cling to our expectation of a result that again leads to our suffering.
Third, recognise that there will be different seasons in your life. What once was considered safe, important and necessary in our 20’s is not necessarily the same when you’re in our 30’s, 40’s, etcetera.
None of us know how much time we have on this earth. The only thing we can be certain of is change.
If you’re feeling fear that’s a great indication you’re probably on the right track.
I invite you to keep shifting your perspective, embrace change and stop living a life based on other people’s definition of happiness. From here you will begin to experience YOUR life more beautifully.
Today I encourage you to take a close look at where you are now and ask yourself the following,
From your answers I invite you do just one of those within this week. Perhaps it’s taking an art class, or booking a plane ticket to that place on your bucket-list, or saying “No” to others and start saying “Yes” to yourself.
Always take the time to acknowledge yourself for doing something different, for stepping outside your comfort and embracing change. And trust that with each small step in the right direction you will create more of THE LIFE YOU LOVE.
