How To Reinvent Yourself

And your home.

The holidays are the time of year when we bump into distant relatives and long-lost friends. While this is something most of us look forward to, there’s the added pressure of wanting to present ourselves in the best possible manner. Reinventing yourself shouldn’t be confined to a promise made on for the holidays or for the New Year. Now is the time to reflect on the past, and think about who you want to be in the future, and make resolutions to be that very special person!

December brought a seemingly endless supply of candy, which unless you’ve got the willpower of a saint, means you’re unlikely to be in peak physical condition. The overeating coupled with the nights in front of the TV soon make fastening our pants an everyday struggle. It’s not much better news on the financial front either. Rising inflation coupled with a growing list of nephews is a devastating duo for anyone’s bank balance.

If you’re like the majority, then you’re probably sitting in your sofa or lying on your bed wondering to be that better person. You might think you’re too old or too set in your ways, or you don’t have enough energy or money. But the truth is that none of those things are standing in your way, because you can do it!

It’s the New Year, make it a resolution to invest in yourself and your home which is a sanctuary. Where there is a will, there is a way. If you believe in yourself, you can be practically anyone you desire to be. You can improve your appearance, be more organized, or transform your home, and change your appearance how others perceive you. The possibilities for self-improvement are up to you.

So, if you don’t feel your best, or you don’t have the money to do anything about it, what do you do? Reading this article is a superb place to start.

I’ve compiled four ways you can reinvent yourself and your home.

Buy / Sell Second-Hand

One of the easiest, fun and fulfilling ways to get your hands on some cash quickly is to sell any unwanted items online. Even if you feel like an item has no value, try to remember that another person’s trash could be another person’s treasure.

Getting rid of any large-sized furniture can help to free up more space around your property, which could come in handy if you’ve got lots of family and friends coming over.

Once you’ve sold a couple of items, think about how you could re-invest it wisely. You could, for example, buy future second-hand holiday ornaments and wreath for around $10–15 on Gumtree. Alternatively, you could dash to the shops and buy the comparable items for around $40 to $100 or more brand new. We’ll let you decide.

Give the Kitchen and Lounge a Tidy Up

Typically, there are only two rooms that are occupied when you entertain — the kitchen and the lounge. These two deserve your undivided attention, especially if you are hosting new guests.

Start by vacuuming every inch of floor and wiping down every surface. If you have any marks on the walls, see if there are any leftover paint hanging around in the garage or loft for a quick touch-up.

Once everything is clean, think about rearranging the furniture to give the room a fresh new feel. Creating a cozy atmosphere is achievable with just a few candles and by making sure the heating is turned up high for those of us in cooler climates.

Finally, if you’re still really worried about what people might think about your home, don’t panic. Food and drinks can make up for anything.

Bring the gym to your home

With some experiencing freezing temperatures outside, dragging yourself to the gym after work can be quite the struggle, especially after the holiday eating and having to deal with the New Year‘s gym rush. For some, it’s always a struggle!

It’s important to TRY and maintain some form of exercise routine. Being physically active causes the brain release endorphins — the chemicals responsible for making us feel happy.

Thanks to apps and sites such as YouTube, working out from the comfort of your living room has never been easier. Simply search for an exercise routine or a muscle group workout on either. It won’t be long before you come across something that tickles your fancy.

Even though this laidback approach won’t sculpt your body into that of a Greek God or Goddess, it will make you feel a little less guilt when you tuck in for any delicious seconds.

Don’t Forget About Yourself

The holidays are undoubtedly a time for giving, and the New Year is a time to think about what difference you want to make and the new goals you wish to achieve. That doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself every now and then.

If you’ve been able to accomplish some of the above goals, buy yourself something as a reward. Whether that’s a new dress, a Christmas shirt or your favorite tech gadget — if it makes you feel good about yourself, go for it!
