“It Is The Uniqueness And Non Normal Side Of People That Gets Them Where They Want To Go In Life” Words Of Wisdom With The Backpack Kid

I had the pleasure to interview online influencer and dancer The Backpack Kid . He has made NBA appearances with the Sacremento Kings, and Charlotte Hornets this year. His post with the Charlotte Hornets has amassed over 3.7 million views. He has worked brands in the past including, ESPN, Under Armour, Nike, MTV, Converse, Vice Media, Super Deluxe, and Zumba.

What is your “backstory”?

I started my comedic style of dance back in the summer of 2014 when I was at a church summer camp and it gained a lot of positive attention so i just moved that to social media to become who I am today.

Can you share the funniest or most interesting story that happened to you in the course of your career?

No one event has really stood out to me in a funny manner because i am a very happy person who laughs at anything even moderately funny for the enjoyment of just laughing, but interesting wise I would say Saturday Night Live would be the most interesting thing to happen during my career.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I try my best to be a positive influence to my younger viewers who will take what they see on social media and grow up doing the same. I never have profanity or anything non family friendly up on my page because I dont want kids to grow thinking that stuff is OK. I also dance with a lot of people from other nationalities because I want to bring people closer together.

If someone would want to emulate your career, what would you suggest are the most important things to do?

Well first of all I had to google what emulate meant lol, but my best advices for anyone trying to have a career in anything would be to just be yourself, and don’t listen to what other people think of you because it is the uniqueness and non normal side of people that gets them where they want to go in life, and not the normal part that everyone in society wants them to be

So what are the most exciting projects you are working on now?

I have just recently gotten into the music industry, because i love music and so does everyone else so why not give it a go, but I’m not in it for the money like all these modern day rappers i just do it because it’s what I enjoy doing And if other people don’t like it than who cares?

What are your “5 things I wish someone told me when I first started” and why.

I can’t really relate to this type of question because i didn’t try to become a social media influencer in the first place. I was just living life like a normal everyday kid. It just happened naturally and i had no idea it would happen but when it did happen i was just like “wow i’m getting a lot of followers but they’ll stop in a day or 2” and then I woke up the week after with 34k and thought that if people really like seeing me being myself then it’s a win win to keep what I’m doing. I get to express my true self while everyone else gets a good chuckle or two out of my content.
