Space for You

With everything that happened —

The loss, the pain, the grief,

There was only space for me;

There was no space for you.

But you stood strong and steady,

Unbreakable, made of steel and stone.

One foot and then the other you marched,

Under the weight of my heart, broken.

How could I have known,

Of your own pain tucked away,

Deep in that steel locker of yours,

And yet I should have sensed it there.

There was only space for me;

There was no space for you.
