The Comedy Legend Who Convinced Aziz Ansari to Start Meditating

A very healthy habit to copy.

Aziz Ansari is a man of many talents and just as many projects, and there might be a good reason why the actor, comedian and creator of the hit Netflix series Master of None can juggle so many tasks: In a recent interview with Vulture, he revealed that he practices Transcendental Meditation twice a day.

The practice seems to help him handle the chaos of creative work and having his attention pulled in so many different directions. As he told Vulture writer Jada Yuan, All this job is, is just like 20 people going, ‘Aziz! Aziz! Aziz! Aziz! You need to answer this!’ And you’ve got your own questions and your own reactions: Is this scene working? How do I do this?”

Ansari was turned on to Transcendental Meditation while filming an episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Jerry Seinfeld’s video series where he — you guessed it — grabs coffee and drives around with a fellow comedian. Ansari says that Seinfeld told him he meditated once a day during the Seinfeld years but added “once I started doing it twice a day I was like, I could’ve done a bunch more seasons of the show.”

When Jerry Seinfeld tells you he could have created more Seinfeld with double the meditation, that’s information you just can’t ignore.
