The Mantra That Keeps Me Steady Every Single Day

I have a book club made up of female friends. I know a girls’ night involving literature isn’t re-inventing the wheel but it’s our way to pretend that “adulting” is just a tad easier and is an simple in-person vessel to lend a supporting ear. We have a constitution that we wrote one night (yes wine was involved) and #1 on the list is “everything is fine.”

When work-life gets too overwhelming I think back to this pinot-infused mantra written in scribble on a yellow note-pad. Worry holds incredible, and sometimes devastating weight, especially as women. For me, it can make my mind volatile and lead to misinformed decisions. That piece of paper reminds me to be steady every single day. Especially in business, as issues are consistently thrown at me to miraculously and immediately solve. If I let every person’s problem chip away at me, my decision-making would undoubtedly be more impulsive. By knowing where my individual equilibrium is, and staying as close as I can to that bar, I find that I’m more successful. By not melting down with every bump in the road I’ve learned others take my answers and choices more firmly and effortlessly. And the truth is, do I remember what problem I was stressed about two weeks ago? Not really.

Sometimes the day won’t go the way you meant it to, and if you can find solace knowing that’s okay — and will likely happen again — you’ll stay calmer. And on the flip side, some things will fall in your favor. Bask in the enjoyment of it, but don’t ride the high too high. The key is to stay steady in your failure and your success. Have an internal balance that doesn’t fluctuate drastically, be easy on yourself and, remember “everything is fine.”

And just for your information Rule #2 on that sheet of paper is just as important; “It’s always acceptable to eat fries in bed.”

This series featured cameos by Josh Duhamel, Kristen Bell, Gillian Jacobs, Chloe Grace Moretz, Eli Roth, Emily Ratajkowski, Tom Felton, and Matt Bomer.
