Looking to improve your well-being as you age? It’s all about getting involved, according to The Irish Times, which recently dug into new research on the impact that social activities have on well-being.

Research from the British charity Age UK, reports that “people with the highest levels of well-being are involved in creative and cultural activities,” through “social, creative or physical activity, work, or belonging to a community group.”

The most clear finding from the research of nearly 15,000 people was “the importance of maintaining meaningful engagement with the world around you in later life.”

An interesting finding in the research points to the positive impact caring for a loved one (usually a partner), if fairly low intensity, can have on a caretaker. Knowing that you are able to help make life better for your loved one can make life better for you by instilling meaning and value into your actions.
