Transformation Through Food

Real Food Transforms Lives

One of the things that I am extremely passionate about is good food. Not just food that tastes good, but also food that is real and nourishing to the body, mind and spirit.

Several years ago, I found myself overweight and on four medications. I had acid reflux so bad that I was taking both prescription strength as well as OTC acid reducers morning and night. I had migraines at least once a week, sometimes they lasted for three days. I was on a daily medication to manage them as well as using pain medications when the headaches hit. I was at the point where my Dr. wanted to prescribe me a statin drug to manage my cholesterol as well. I was working long hours every day, eating out 2 or even 3 times a day, and not exercising at all.

I knew that something had to change. I decided that I HAD to lose weight and thus began my journey. As I began my journey back to health, I stopped eating out. However, I was still eating lots of processed foods. I just chose the lower calorie options. And while this was helpful for me losing weight, I wasn’t get the nutrition that my body needed to thrive, so I was still feeling low energy, struggling to sleep and experiencing hormone fluctuations.

Near the end of my journey to lose 60 pounds, I participated in a group coaching program designed to help you learn to love your body. Even though I had lost a lot of weight and looked better in my clothes, I still felt like the overweight woman that I used to be. I still hated my body and didn’t love any part of me. Part of that program was to learn how to listen to your body. We were given the assignment of completing a 14 day food cleanse. We eliminated sugar, dairy, alcohol, caffeine and gluten for 14 days while eating whole, unprocessed foods.

This cleanse was truly transformational for me. I began to see how much better I could feel if I ate unprocessed, whole foods. My body felt great and I had tons of energy allowing me to work all day, get a workout in and still manage my home with ease. I found that my thinking was clearer and I had less depressed days. I was also sleeping better which helped me keep my whole body in better balance. While I didn’t lose any more weight, I maintained the weight loss I had achieved without counting calories or feeling deprived of food that I loved!

After getting such positive results, I began researching food and its nutritional aspects for the body. I found a course that really resonated with me and began training with ITN to become a Certified Transformational Nutrition Coach®. What I learned completely changed the way I look at food. I also began to look at society’s “norms” and could see a direct correlation between the food we eat and the level of obesity and disease in this country. If we aren’t feeding and fueling our bodies with food that it recognizes and can use, then we are setting ourselves up for being overweight and sick.

The body has an amazing capacity to heal itself; but only if you give it the proper tools. I believe those tools start with the food that we eat. What the body needs is food that is fresh, whole (in its natural state) and nutritious. The body does not need or even recognize food that is genetically modified or highly processed.

As I continued to eat more and more whole foods, I began to notice that I wasn’t having migraines anymore. That led me to being curious about the possibility of going off the medications. I decided to slowly wean myself off of all four medications. I found that I still didn’t have migraines AND after I got past the reliance on acid reducers, I didn’t have constant indigestion anymore either!

There is power in eating real food and that is my passion. I now share my message with other women and help them learn to have better health through eating whole, real foods that are full of nutrition so that they too can see a transformation in their own lives, whether they want to lose weight, have more energy, sleep better or just feel more nourished. I help career women who feel stuck and unhealthy find balance through eating real food and other holistic practices. My clients have lost weight, sleep better, have more energy and have clearer skin.
