“The best way to have a great day is to start with a good night’s sleep.”

As a working mom of two, I believe it has never been a trickier time to raise children. We moved to Malibu with the intention of leading a healthier and more vibrant life by the sea. From growing our own fruits and vegetables, to having pet chickens lay our eggs, to using recycled water and energy, we are striving to make a green footprint in our own little way. With that being said, music, technology, and a sense of community are also big parts of who we are as a family. I’m constantly searching for new avenues and organic ways to balance homework, technology, and outdoor play for my kids.

With husband, Jimmy Iovine

I’ve found that the best way to have a great day is to start with a good night’s sleep. For us, that means no cell phones or TV from dinnertime onward (adults too!). This allows us as a family to unplug and engage in real conversation at the dinner table, and share stories about our days. After dinner we start to wind down for bed — I bathe my kids in lavender oil and give them chamomile tea and make sure their electronics are not in their bedrooms. Then we read stories in bed, which is not only a lost art in this digital age, but also, quality time alone with my two children that I cherish.

The best advice I think I can share with anyone is to live life in truth — be true to your heart whether or or not those choices fit in with “society” and our conditioning.

Living from your heart and not from your mind will propel you to greater success in all aspects of your life.
