In 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG), Indian athletes won medals across many sports. In this article, I examine how their performance compares to the Olympics standards.

In CGW 2022, Indian sportsperson won medals in the following sports

While 61 medals are less than 66 medals in CWG 2018 but India had won 16 medals in shooting in 2018 which was absent from 2022 games. Along with shooting even wrestling is excluded from 2026 CWG.

Among the above sports, only performances in athletics and weightlifting can be compared across different events as rank is based on numbers in these sports.

Lakhsya Sen won the gold medal in badminton for India. He is world number 10 in badminton, but only one player ranked higher than him, played in the commonwealth games. So it cannot be said whether he would have won an Olympic medal or not.

In almost none of the sports, the strongest countries of that sports participate in CWG. So I only analyse what rank Indian medal winners in athletics and weightlifting would have obtained if they had given the same performance in the 2020 Olympics games.

Apart from Mirabai Chanu, only Avinash Sable would have won an Olympic medal for his performance in the commonwealth games. Other Indian medal winners in athletics and weightlifting would have been far behind bronze medal place.
