Start with Why
Do you know your Why? The purpose, cause, or belief that inspires you to do what you do. — Simon Sinek
My answer to Why???
I want to provide individuals impacted by mood disorders (i.e. Bipolar Disorder and Clinical Depression) with hope and empower them to realize their potential to change the world.
I have gone through the highs and lows of learning to accept and manage my condition of being being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I have felt the euphoria of thinking up great ideas of changing the world for the better and the lows of being hospitalized with no idea of when I would be released. That actually may have been one of the scariest moments of my life…
My mind was broken and I did not know if it would ever be fixed.
I was diagnosed in 2002 and have dealt with many failed attempts to create a business that could make the world better for over a decade:
Do What You Love, Inc. — A nonprofit organization that aimed to help individuals identify their passions and create a plan to monetize them into a career.
Be Your Greatest Self — A short lived life coaching business that aimed to help individuals optimize their lives in order to realize their fullest potential.
ThriveStreams — Our initial product was called Uptimal. It was going to be a goal achievement platform that helped individuals to utilize social netowrking to achieve any goal of any size.
Luckily for ThriveStreams, we ran out of money…
This forced us to rethink our product and market. We started with the market and initially decided we wanted to help people dealing with bipolar disorder. After more market research, we expanded that to include clinical depression.
It was through my determination to use my own experience, talents, and skills in best service to the world that my team and I were able to finally realize and ship a product called ThriveTracker.
A cure for bipolar disorder and clinical depression may never be found. But that does not mean that we cannot band together in hopes of learning to live with a diagnosis and even thrive!
So I bring this post back to the beginning like a Quentin Tarantino movie by stating my WHY:
I want to provide individuals impacted by mood disorders (i.e. Bipolar Disorder and Clinical Depression) with hope and empower them to realize their potential to change the world.
And end with the following question:
How can you best use your experiences, talent, and skills to change the world for the better???
