Most of us want to forget our kryptonites, our flaws and failures — and yes, we usually have more than one. But they’re important to work with because these are the things that trip us up, and prevent us from achieving our goals.

I spent most of 2020 figuring out what my kryptonites are, as I explored my autism and did a lot of introspection along with that.

There are several different types of kryptonite. Everyone has limiting beliefs; thoughts about ourselves which block our productivity. These limiting beliefs often come from our culture or the people in our lives who said something that we took to heart. It may not even have been something bad — they may have intended their remark as a compliment.

For example, I spent most of my early childhood being revered by nearly every adult who knew me because I was “so independent.” And I believed that about myself right up until I had to be an independent adult, when I discovered I hated it. Sure, I’m unconventional, but I have no interest in dealing with forms and numbers without help. So that’s one of my kryptonites that I’ll have to…
