Flat Earth: A Limiting Belief

“How do you know?” Asked the child of their parent.

What is knowing?

It is the belief that something is real for you.

For someone who believes the earth is flat, the earth is flat. They know it because it is true for them. Even if they went up to the International Space Station to “see” the earth as a globe, they would perceive Earth as a flat disc because they believe the Earth is flat.

To convince this person that the Earth is roughly spherical, that person must be open to changing their belief.

Wars were fought over this shift in belief, and everyone involved knew they were in the right.

We all have beliefs that shape our experience of reality. You have to decide for yourself whether your beliefs are helping you achieve your goals and live your life the way you want, or if your beliefs are preventing you from realizing your dreams.

Note: beliefs are not necessarily religious.

I spent years believing I was a plotter/planner because I need a solid understanding of my characters and their fictional world before I can write scenes of their stories.

It turns out that that was a limiting belief that prevented me from writing, just as believing the earth was flat was a belief that limited…
