#23: Holographic Dental Scans
Don’t worry, you won’t need your wisdom teeth for this one.
Let’s be honest. When dentists and orthodontists are pointing to your dental x-rays and they ask, “see this here?” the majority of us honestly have no idea what “this” is and where “here” means.
Now it’s possible for dentists and orthodontists to take CT Scans of your teeth and display them holographically as 3D models that you can make sense of.
Imagine an orthodontist’s office with a Looking Glass that animates your wisdom teeth removal to show you how the surgery will happen or shows what the shape of your teeth will look like after two years of wearing braces? What about one that demonstrates shows you your tooth decay and approximates the rate at which it will become a cavity if you don’t shape up your sugary diet?
Whatever the possibilities, it’s a win-win scenario for both patient and dentist. The patient gets more visual understanding of what’s going on in their mouth, and the dental care provider can spend less time explaining what the actual problem is and more time on what the solutions are.
But probably no amount of holo-visual advances in orthodontics will change how disoriented everyone wakes up post wisdom teeth removal. Enjoy.
