We are entering 2021 with enormous momentum and excitement as we embark on a new chapter of growth and become the only app homeowners need to fix, maintain, and improve their home.
As we make our vision a reality, we are also reimagining what our work culture looks like at Thumbtack long-term. While the pandemic caused seismic shifts in how and where we work, the next few years offer us an opportunity to lean into this moment to reimagine what is possible.
To that end, I am excited to share that Jelena Djordjevic, who has been our Chief of Staff for almost three years, has been promoted to Head of People. As we begin to execute against our bold plans and rethink our future of work, there is no one more uniquely positioned to lead our People team.
Jelena is someone who has the skills and experience to drive change at scale. She has been a close partner to me and played an integral role through numerous initiatives, including leading our values update, running company-wide planning and equalizing parental leave at Thumbtack. I trust her to be a protector of our unique Thumbtack culture while helping to support our growth as we transition how and where we work.
Looking forward, we are focused on creating an effective, flexible, and equitable experience for all Thumbtackers. This year, our People team is focused on delivering world-class employee engagement, fostering social connections and community, and training managers to support teams while working remotely. We will also continue to prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion for our current team as well as the 150 new employees we plan to hire this quarter.
Prior to joining Thumbtack, Jelena was a Case Team Leader at Bain & Company, a global management consulting firm, where she focused on digital and product strategy as well as change management. She also spent time at Airbnb and Endeavor working on Business Development and Strategy.
While we welcome Jelena into her new role, it’s a bittersweet moment as Justin Angsuwat, our former Chief People Officer, made the decision to move to Australia with his family for the long-term, where he’ll be focused on growing the startup ecosystem. While I’m happy for them, knowing they are where they want to settle, I’m also sad to lose such a great leader.
Justin has done an outstanding job building our People Team and will continue on as advisor through the middle of this year. His list of accomplishments is long, including establishing the People Business Partner, Organizational Development, People Analytics and diversity, equity and inclusion teams. Incorporating a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens across offices, he created leveling, performance and compensation structures as well as benefits equality. I’m grateful that Justin’s tenacity, positivity, focus on team and leadership principles have been embedded in who we are.
Looking ahead, we are thinking long-term to achieve our corporate vision, support our team and accomplish our goals. Our business is seeing tremendous growth and we have bold plans for the future.
But amidst all of this, what is most important is preserving our “Thumbtackiness.” Our culture and values are the compass for everything we do — how we recruit, how we work, how we assess performance, and how we build community, and I’m thrilled to partner with Jelena and the rest of the People team on all of this.
