At Thumbtack, we’re fortunate to witness how individuals can help shape their communities for the better. That’s why, whether you’re a small business owner or a Thumbtack employee, we’re encouraging all Americans to engage in the civic process this election season.

Firstly, we’re proud to join the Civic Alliance, a nonpartisan business coalition that strengthens our democracy by inspiring every American to participate in shaping our country’s future. Collectively, the Civic Alliance reaches over 2 million employees and counting.

Thumbtack is also committing to giving workers the day off on Election Day, November 3, 2020, so every employee has time to vote and participate to the fullest. Whether employees choose to go to the polls, fill out or drop off a ballot, volunteer to support a campaign of their choice, or encourage friends and family to vote, it’s our hope that removing work obligations for the day will enable active, meaningful engagement in the civic process.

This year, the pandemic is forcing many older Americans who often staff poll locations to stay home, resulting in a nationwide shortage of poll workers. Thumbtack is encouraging its interested and able employees to serve as poll workers and prevent staffing shortages that would result in the closure of polling sites.

Additionally, Thumbtack will leverage its platform to send voter registration information to every small business that uses our site. To mark National Voter Registration Day in September, we’ll be spreading the message about how important it is to take part in this fall’s election and partnering again with Turbovote to provide an easy and simple way for everyone to register to vote, update their registration, or request an absentee ballot.

This election season faces unique challenges, and together with the Civic Alliance, we aspire for historic voter turnout in 2020 and beyond. Whether we’re setting aside time for our employees or connecting small business owners with the resources they need, Thumbtack is proud to be doing our part to ensure everyone can participate in the 2020 election.
