f you’ve owned a vagina for a while, you know that sometimes things get out of balance. But there is actually a lot to learn about your body during those times! The more you pay attention, the more you’ll understand what your body does and does not like. And for under $10, you can track these changes with a pH tester.

When we talk about pH, we mean the acidicity or alkalinity of your cooter. A normal vagina will have a pH between 3.5–4.5, about the same as a glass of wine. Everybody’s body is slightly different so your baseline will be slightly different than the next human. However, we do know that your pussy ecosystem can be thrown off by all kinds of things.

Last month, I tested my pH before and after sex, when I had the flu, when I was hungover, after my period, after exercise and whenever else I felt like it and it was sooo interesting to learn what fluctuations my pum pum was going through.

Of course, a high or low pH or a big shift doesn’t necessarily tell you WHAT is wrong — it could be anything from an std to a bad diet or an infection — but it does tell you something’s up. And if it persists, it’s usually time to go see a doctor. Consider a pH test another tool in your toolbox, not a magic wand.

Tips on using the pH testers: swipe right to see the three kits I bought from Amazon. I tested them out first using Apple Cider Vinegar, coconut milk and then saliva and got pretty consistent results across all three companies. My guess is they’re pretty similar — the only difference is the type of tester strip. Some are plastic with holders some are just small strips of paper.

All of the testers work best with cups of liquid. But unless you want to figure out how to drain your pussy juice into a mason jar (can we invent that tho?), you’ll have to hold the test strip against the inner wall of your vagina until the paper is juicy enough. Match the color of the strip with the guide in the kit, and don’t wait for the tester to dry out.

What do you think?!
