This article will address using Thunkable’s AdMob component to serve ads in your app to generate revenue.

AdMob is a PRO exclusive component. Any Thunkable creator can place ads in their app project and see how it looks by Live Testing their app, but only PRO creators can download and publish ads with AdMob components.

PRO creators need to follow these steps to download or publish their app that contains an AdMob component:

  • Build an app that contains AdMob components
  • Submit your app for approval from our App Review Team*
  • Wait for an email saying you are approved to download and publish your app!

Apps are reviewed within 1 week from time of submission.

*If it is your first time submitting an app for AdMob approval, you will be sent an invitation to Thunkable’s MCM network. You will need to accept this invitation before your app can be reviewed. Thunkable will charge 10% of AdMob profits as a maintenance fee. This may also extend the review timeframe.

If your app is not approved, you will receive an email from the App Review Team explaining why. You will be advised on how to amend your app to meet our standards, and invited to submit your app for review again.

You can give your app the best chance of being approved by making sure it follows AdMob’s policies and restrictions. You should also ensure that your app follows the Play Store or App Store’s guidelines for minimum functionality and spam. You can see the Play Store’s guidelines here, and the App Store’s guidelines here.

If you have any difficulties with showing ads in your app, you can check out our troubleshooting guide in this Thunkable Community post. Please note that your app will probably need an audience of some size before advertisers pay to show their ads in it.

Hint 1: We recommend using app-ads.txt to protect your ad inventory!

Hint 2: Make use of Test Mode for your ads! When Test Mode is true, you can download your app, and see how it behaves when you click on your ads. It is forbidden to click on actual ads being served in your own app, so this is a great way to see how your app users will experience ads. Before publishing your app, make sure Test Mode is set to false so that you show real ads to your users.
