The annual Hour of Code event takes place every year during Computer Science Education Week. This year, Hour of Code sessions occurs from December 6th to 12th. Thunkable is proud to support and participate in 2021’s Hour of Code events.

Every year, students from all over the world get hands-on with computer science concepts during the Hour of Code. The goal of HoC is to inspire every student, from Kindergarten to College, to pursue digital creation. Regardless of experience, students are asked to dedicate an hour of their time to any coding concept that inspires them. Students can follow along with basic tutorials, join live training sessions, or compete in mini-hackathons — totally free. There are thousands of courses and sessions that let anyone jump right in. The Hour of Code event is supported by over 400 partners and 200,000 worldwide educators. For 2021, there are more than 46,000 events scheduled in 180+ countries.

Thunkable has supported Computer Science Education Week and the Hour of Code events since our inception. Our mission aligns closely with HoC’s — we both believe that everyone should be able to get hands-on with digital creation. Everyone should have the tools to bring ideas to life, regardless of experience or expertise.

Thunkable is already a key teaching tool for STEM curriculum and is used in tens of thousands of classrooms around the world. Hour of Code is another way that students can learn coding & computer science concepts, without enrolling in a specific course.

The team at Thunkable has built a session that is open to everyone. This easy 4 step program will show students the fundamentals of building their own mobile app and integrating external data. For more advanced students, they can build their own user interface or attempt to integrate multiple data sources. This is a great course for all skill levels.

If you’d like to learn more about Hour of Code, check out their website. You can find available sessions & seminars near you, or enroll in a virtual program.

If you’d like to participate in Thunkable’s Hour of Code course, check out our program. We are proud to support Thunkable for the 5th year and we can’t wait to see what you’ll build!
