Inspiration from Mexico: Chef Rick Bayless at Thuzio Executive Club

This week’s two-night event with Chef Rick Bayless was the first culinary event for Thuzio Executive Club in Chicago. The venue, his craft brewery and taquería Cervecería Cruz Blanca, has a unique setting and features open seating, a smoky aroma from wood-grilled meats, and large stainless steel vats fermenting and brewing 10 different craft beers.
Jacob, the head brewer, took members and guests on a tour of the brewery and explained the beer brewing process with local ingredients and its Mexico City inspiration. Everyone was able to taste all of the craft beers they had to offer, and saw why they were recently named one of the Best New Breweries in the US by Beer Advocate.
Chef Bayless captivated the whole room while telling his story. He discussed his journey as a chef, the influence Mexican cuisine and culture has made on his life, and how much he loves Chicago. While he loves Mexican food and how much it has had an impact, he does have one rule. “I cook all the time at home, but never Mexican. That stays at the workplace.”
The food almost felt like an added bonus after hearing Chef Bayless tell his life story and share so much with members. The cured flank steak, roasted garlic chicken, and agave portabella mushroom tacos still impressed everyone in the room. Chef Bayless noted, “It’s all about the tools you have in the kitchen when preparing delicious food.”
Tuesday and Wednesday night were the first of many culinary events in Chicago for Thuzio Executive Club, and we’re honored to have Chef Rick Bayless help us begin that exciting new venture.
