“It all started on the farm, milking cows and bailing hay…. “

Duane and Glen Kuiper began their story by going back to when they were kids. Their father, Henry Kuiper taught them the importance of hard work by having them work on the family farm in Sturtevant, Wisconsin. Duane and Glen noted that at first they didn’t understand and thought they were being punished, but it gave them their work ethic.

Their dad still let Duane and Glen have their fun. He always let his sons get off work to go to baseball. That’s how they found their love for the game. Their dad also impacted their talent and love for radio — he was an auctioneer.

“Glen and I had our eyes and ears on what was going on on the radio — our work ethic came from doing what we were asked to do. But also from watching the old man and what he did.”

“Dad was a terrific auctioneer and we both got blessed with his voice.”

Duane and Glen spoke highly of their father all through the discussion. They also talked about having the same style and voice, and that’s what helped make them so successful.

Duane and Glen also connected with moderator Ted Ramey, who’s father was also was in the business. It built this sense of family and connection that lasted through the entire Q&A. All three are well-versed in sports, radio, and the Bay Area. The Kuiper brothers even threw in a plug for Ted: “Go see the Earthquakes!”

They also interacted with members and guests in a very unique way: Duane and Glen brought their own trivia and had signed baseballs to throw as prizes. Their first question: “How many home runs do we have between us?” The answer: “One!”

Before the night ended, they asked us if they could keep their Thuzio poster (pictured above). What were their plans? Something many may not know is that the Kuiper brothers love Starbucks, and even own one on the Bay Area. Duane and Glen plan to frame the poster and hang it up in their Starbucks for every coffee-craving and baseball-loving customer to see.

We can’t think of a better place for Thuzio’s token from a great night of family and baseball.
