Oilers at Kings: Sometimes We CAN Have Nice Things

I think we all had an inkling that this game would be a good one for the Kings, but I’m not sure we thought it would be this good.

The Kings asserted their dominance early with Jeff Carter doing what Jeff Carter does best which is scoring some nice goals. Not to discount his skill or anything, but when the Oilers choose to implement a very ineffective swarm on you, only good things can happen.

Defense! *clap clap clap*

A little over a minute later, Playoff MVP Justin Williams added to the tally with a speedy push along the right wing to beat Fasth. As of this point, the Kings were 0 for 13 with a man advantage, but count on these dudes to do things the hard way. During a shorthanded situation, TYLER TOFFOLI showed off his (according to Jim Fox) S I C K mitts, and just danced around the Oilers for a beauty of goal, one befitting of his Top Titty nickname.

One period, three goals. But the Kings aren’t done yet. Not one to be left out of the fun, Dustin Brown scores his first of the season by crashing the net and making things happen. Next in line on the goal train, it ain’t a Kings game without a hat trick from That 70’s Line, and Tanner Pearson delivers with a great goal off of a quick little spin in front of the net.

Pearson thought scoring was so nice that he did it twice. He wasn’t pleased with only scoring the first goal of the Kings season, so he went ahead and assuaged the Kings’ power play woes by scoring the first Kings goal with a man advantage. Damn can this kid do it all.

Now up 6–0 and with the possibility of shutout to tie Rogie Vachon’s shutout record, Jonathan Quick says “nah!” and allows a dumb angle shot from some very desperate Oilers.

You did this to yourself bud.

Still, the game ends 6–1 and the Kings look like some kind of offensive juggernaut. Thanks for that Oilers!
