How Leadership is Measured in The Kingdom of Heaven
Flipping the notion of leadership on its head.
I want to be great and so do you.
Everybody wants to be great. The disciples of Jesus Christ wanted to be great so badly that some of them had their mother go before Jesus asking Him to make them great.
Jesus did not rebuke his disciples for wanting to be great; after all, God created us for greatness that is why deep down we all want to be great. Instead, he taught them about leadership.
“You know that the rulers of this world, in their desire to be leaders, love to lord over others. They seek to control people and act as if they own them,” He said.
But that is not true leadership. He warned against pursuing greatness through oppression, degradation, or manipulation of others for personal gain.
“Instead, whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant — just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.”
Jesus was a servant in many ways.
He washed his disciples’ feet! Would you do that? I’m not sure that I would but he did which was a truly humble act showing us that no job is too low for a leader.
