You Might Be the Answer to Someone Else’s Prayer
And you never know who’s the answer to yours
He had been standing by the side of the road for four hours. His truck had run out of diesel. He was in Virginia and his closest relative was in New York. He tried to hitchhike. No one would stop to help him. While he was waiting for help, a police officer saw his truck parked on the side of the road. The officer told him he could leave his truck there temporarily and look for a ride to get fuel, but he needed to keep his emergency hazard lights flashing for safety. When the stranded man asked the officer for a ride, the officer said no. He explained that he couldn’t give rides in the police car and advised him to call roadside assistance. He called roadside assistance, but they would charge him eight hundred dollars to take him to get fuel and back. He wasn’t going to pay that kind of money just to get fuel. He tried to call an Uber and Lyft, but there were no drivers around. He was too far out of reach. He kept trying to reach someone.
Meanwhile, I was at home feeling down on myself and bored with my life. Something nudged me to open my Lyft rideshare app. As I played around in the app, I accidentally accepted a ride with a drop-off very far away. I didn’t mean to do that. Why did I just do that?
