Greetings all! 👋

My name is Cameron and I’m the (not so new) Community Growth Manager here at Tick.Done!

While thinking of something new to write for our blog I thought “Why not talk about the reasons why I joined Tick.Done?” so here it is!

What is my role?
First of all, I thought I’d tell you what exactly it is I do …

To put it in a sentence, being the ‘Community Growth Manager’ means I’m involved in all things to do with our amazing community, focussing particularly on how we can make everyone who creates a story on our platform feel appreciated, rewarded and encouraged to share more ❤️

Just me leading an important meeting no biggy

While that’s my core focus, at Tick.Done we’re given the freedom to dive into other areas that we want to progress in, or that our skills are a natural fit. So coming from a digital marketing background I love getting involved with growth strategy, copywriting, content marketing and content creation.

Where have I come from?
Straight out of university, I spent my first 2 years working remotely in the digital marketing industry as a freelancer. My main focus during this time was on increasing customer lifetime value, community growth & retention through storytelling, content marketing and community building.

I had a great time working within a large range of industries including fitness, nutrition, digital marketing services, Fintech, and blockchain and while these two years were both rewarding and enjoyable, I had a desire to launch myself into long-term project that would have a lasting impact on the world.

This led me to look for roles at both new, and well-established technology companies in industries, with a focus and working on tech-for-good. i.e. companies that are trying to make a difference in the world, improve people’s lives, weren’t making their users scrolling zombies, weren’t stealing their data, or performing unethical activities such as sacrificing cattle to the Old Gods.

And that’s when I came across Tick.Done.

Probably on the phone to my mum

So what got me in the door? After a few years of being freelance, I wanted the feeling of being a part of something that would benefit people for years to come, not just myself or my clients.

Being deep in the digital/social media space I have an appreciation of the benefits of social media. For me personally, I feel it’s democratized the media, and granted a stage for people who, if they work hard and produce good content, can build an audience, an income, and follow their passion for life. Youtubers, ‘Influencers’, niche micro-influencers, and Twitch stars, are just a few examples of people doing just that, and it’s great to see.

However, it has become increasingly apparent to me that the behaviors which social media instill have the potential to damage and harm, rather than benefit its users. This is even more noticeable in individuals who become reliant upon these platforms for their dopamine hits, as opposed to getting out there and using real-world stimuli.

When I began to learn more and more about the Tick.Done mission, how they planned to substitute these negative behaviors for ultimately more healthy and positive ones, while still maintaining the democratization of knowledge and entertainment, I was sold.

On another level, being physically around a talented team, building an awesome platform, having that tangible feeling of gathering momentum i.e. hi-fives and fist bump moments, (these are hard to come by when you’re freelance, and hi-fiving yourself isn’t nearly as satisfying). So this was another reason why joining the Tick.Done team was an exciting prospect.

In a nutshell, I truthfully loved the concept, the timing was right, I loved the potential of the product, and the founding team and I felt like we were a natural fit!*

*That, and they bribed me with custard creams, and a free t-shirt (I’m a simple creature at heart)

Here’s the squad donning said free t-shirt

What’s next for me and the Tick.Done team?

We want to focus on making our community aware that they’re an integral part of our mission to help a billion people learn a million new things. So I’m hell-bent on finding wats to make sure creators benefit from putting time and energy into their Tick.Done stories.

Additionally, I want Tick.Done to be full of character and purpose. Constantly looking to make our communications and marketing as insightful, and fun as possible, giving you all a better understanding of what makes us Tick.
