Last year, the creators of the open-minded Middle Eastern and Balkan dance party, Kalinichta, and the now-famous unofficial-Gay-Pride-closing-party, Rosario, decided to go large. Tropikali was born as the culmination of all the best parts of these two smaller parties, and organized as a festival. This ain’t no Frankenstein-job — Tropikali nailed it as the most fun I had all of last summer, and certainly an amazing way to open the season. When something is really good, do it bigger!! I use the exact same philosophy about men. All Tea, all shade, henny!

The recipe worked, and Diederik Broekhuizen (not just by coincidence, the man behind The Best Social Media) and his partner, Nicola Rinaldi, and team, put all the cards on the table and grabbed the surrounding area of the Noorderlicht in the NDSM warf of Amsterdam Noord. Nearly 2,000 party goers arrived in the most colorful resort-chique wear ever seen in Amsterdam. Thank the heavens the weather gods agreed.

That’s me in the hat. Yeah bitches, I sewed these rompers myself!

For 2019, the guys made the wise choice not to slow down and Tropikali will be back on Sunday, June 2 in the same location at Noorderlicht, but BIGGER. The bar was set high by such acts as Carlos Valdes and Miss Keta last year but we can expect more, more, more. Three areas: Rosario, Kalinichta, and World Ballroom, plus a picnic and chill zone, Tropikali 2019 grows to 3,500 attendees, with additional space, which means more acts and more fun!

One cup break dance, one cup fruit salad, two liters of laughter — Tropikali was delicious.
We couldn’t understand Miss Keta’s lyrics but she sure had everybody dancing.
Pose! Pose! Pose! Now smile.

If you are gay, bisexual, undecided, Martian, or straight, it doesn’t really matter because this early summer fest is welcoming and open to all. Just bring your smile and open-mind and definitely be ready to dance. I’m gonna bring the spice, the sass and new rompers! Trust.

Check out their Facebook page for the latest event updates, and follow their insta for your outfit inspiration.

Now you are surely convinced. Join me there, won’t you?

There are still some tickets available but don’t wait because this will sell out!
