Preparing the next generation

As social beings, humans have always been concerned with the passing-down of knowledge from one generation to the next. The way in which this has been done has evolved, from story telling and songs around the campfire, to painting on rocks, to theatre and to the development of the written word. However with the move to a Microsoft Word document we now miss out on all of that extra context that we need to fill out the story.

One day you will leave your position of leadership and the only way for your tribe to survive and thrive beyond your tenure is to furnish the next generation. Ideas and information should be at their fingertip that allows them to be inspired to build on top of what has come before them.

This may sound crazy but having a ready-made succession plan also attracts more hands to take up the cause. The next generation are inspired if they see their leaders have a well laid out organised plan, and that they’re happy in the roles they have.

You’re more likely to put your hand up for an well run organisation rather than an organisation that is stressed, or rather it’s leaders are stressed.

Many groups don’t experience this easy handover, or don’t see these dots connecting strategy to recruitment. If a potential administrator or volunteer consistently sees the existing administrators complaining and pulling their hair out it’s not going to make for an attractive offering.

Our aim is to provide your group with an organically produced succession plan, created by your use of our platform. While the more artistic song and dance side of the story telling still happens in our office, we are still wrapping and sewing additional context into each area of your account and providing a story for your next leaders. This then allows the next generation to grow their own ideas.

How you’re thinking about the next generation will be part of your competitive advantage and should be considered as seriously as anything else on your agenda.

TidyHQ.com is the all-in-one administration platform that manages your tribe’s contacts, finances, memberships, events, communication, tasks, meetings, documents and much more.

Inspired by the amazing Seth Godin.
