Many people have started gardening this year to help curb the cost of inflation. Green beans are some of the easiest vegetables to grow. Pole beans can be planted to take advantage of vertical space which saves room in the garden. Plus, pole beans can be harvested throughout the summer as long as the plants have plenty of water and don’t succumb to disease or insect damage. Bush beans are quick to grow from planting to harvest and can be planted in succession or planted all at once to produce green beans for canning.

Last year’s garden produced an overabundance of green beans so I have a lot of green beans canned so I decided not to can green beans this year. However, we do enjoy eating fresh green beans and there are people at the farmers’ market who enjoy fresh green beans, so we decided to grow just enough green beans to eat fresh and to perhaps share any excess at the farmers’ market.
