Learning To Receive

We are brought up being taught how to give. I remember my parents taught me why we gave to the church, how we should give to those less fortunate than us, and at the holidays, how giving a gift was more important than getting one. For as much emphasis as was put on giving, receiving almost became taboo. It’s wasn’t really even thought of as receiving, it was more like taking. When you take, you are benefiting from someone else’s loss. Receiving and taking are not the same thing. In actuality, giving and receiving are two sides of the same coin. You can’t give unless someone receives. Yet, we are never taught how to receive. We are taught how to give and how to take, but never to receive. In essence, by receiving, you are giving. I’m getting better at receiving because I understand how it allows for more giving. Open yourself to the possibilities that exist when we learn to receive.
