Designing our new watches

As we are approaching the end of 2019, I thought I would give an update regarding the new designs of the Time Locker watches.

We are currently running a design survey, asking our community for feedback… Your inputs will help us to improve our designs, features, and materials.

LAUNCHING IN 2020 ON KICKSTARTER

From removing the date window to changing the case size?

When we first introduced the Time Locker diving watches, two feedbacks attracted our interest.

  • Remove the date window
  • Reduce the case size

This survey is the perfect opportunity to put these two comments to the test.

Removing the date window

The date function is a feature often seen on dive watches worn by combat divers in the 50s. This is why we initially designed our watches with such a function.

Looking at the survey results collected so far, 60.2% of our community is asking for a dial without the window display. This would accentuate the minimalist look of our watches, making them true minimalist dive watches.

Reducing the case size

For a combat diver, timing is crucial. From launching a meticulously planned attack on time to finding the way underwater, using a map, a compass, and a watch… And last but not least, keeping track of the lifeline called oxygen left in the tanks. Being able to read with ease their watch is essential to a frogman.

To stay aligned with the watches worn by these elite divers, the Time Locker diving watches have a case size of 42.00mm.

You don’t have to be an elite soldier to enjoy the reading comfort of our 42.00mm timepieces. The hand-applied indexes are easy to read be it during the day or at night, thanks to the 3 layers of Super-LumiNova C3 lume.

Unlike many watches found on Kickstarter which are using already available cases and other components (off-the-shelf watches), our timepieces are designed and developed from a white page. It means we have to work with a MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity). This explains why we don’t offer more than one case size. Each case size requires an additional MOQ. When you are a small independent microbrand, offering too many design options can be tricky.

So far, 46,9% of our audience is asking for a 42.00mm case, followed by 24.5% asking for a 40.00mm case.

Do you agree with these results?

Conclusion

For our 2020 edition, we want to involve our community in the design process of our dive watches. Thanks to our design survey, you can join us in the development of our new timepieces.

We learned so far that watch enthusiasts prefer the Time Locker dive watches without a date window and a 42.00mm case size. What about you?

We are also asking for your feedback on other features too.

  • Drilled or no drilled lugs,
  • Stainless steel or Titanium
  • NH35A (longer lead time) or a Swiss Quartz movement
