In my previous blog post, I talked about how organization was the first step to bettering your time management skills. When I say “organize” or “make a list,” it should consist of organizing your priorities first. Since time equals events, you have to decide which events in your life are a priority and which are not.

Prioritization and Productivity

You are the only in control of your time, so hopefully you use it wisely. If you really think about it, the concept of time is connected directly to us. How we control our lives is how we control our time. The more productive you are, the more time you’re going to have for those other priorities on your list. Our productivity also connects with our morals, values, self-esteem, and our inner being. Time management is much deeper than I ever thought. It’s time to decide whether or not you’re using your time wisely, because you can never get it back. Think back to the last time you procrastinated that important homework assignment and then thought to yourself, “I should’ve really done that homework earlier.” You probably had the time, but just didn’t want to do it- we’ve all done it. Procrastination is pretty discouraging; you end up upset with yourself because you couldn’t find the motivation to get things done when you planned. And, of course there are events in life that are unexpected and that you may have no control over, but as time goes on, you learn to roll with the punches.

If you feel in a rut right now, I promise you’ll feel much better when you start to have a better grip on this whole “managing time thing.” Take into consideration your own happiness first because after all, it is your life. So, after you organize your priorities and thoughts all together, it’s time to plan. Time management is a serious commitment when you understand the value of your life and everyone in it. Planning can be especially hard when you are unclear of your future goals, but it is possible to plan day-by-day. Planning is getting into the nitty gritty part of time management, but it’s a necessary step towards making a better life for yourself.
