We have often spoken about how the quarantine played into strengthening the eSports sector, but with this boon came a few problems of its own. Esports is facing a development barrier, which is network latency.

Ping time, or round trip delay, is the time it takes for data to be sent and acknowledged by the receiving end, and it’s vitally important. In 2020, intercontinental online tournaments were more of a test of patience rather than a test of skill. Almost all competitors were playing from home instead of an eSports arena.

This creates an uneven playing field, which makes competitions between teams from other parts of the world very challenging! This is why eSports athletes, just like others, are eagerly waiting for all borders to open.
